For this project, we become forensic scientists for a few weeks. We were given a paper with the circumstances of the death of a man named Carlton Comet. We analysed evidence found on the crime scene to figure out who killed Carlton Comet. The evidence found on the crime scene include: 2 kinds of blood from 2 different people, a few unknown fibers, a fingerprint on the murder weapon, and a note saying "You are a dead man". There are also other things we can take into consideration when looking at the suspects. One thing that we can look at are their Karyotypes. A Karyotype is basically just a way of looking at people's DNA to see if they if they have any disorders with their Chromosomes. Our main suspect, Nancy Normal, had Triple X syndrome. This means that she has an extra X chromosome, whereas normally woman would only have two. Another thing we looked at was the DNA fingerprint. DNA fingerprinting is when you take DNA and put it in a gel to do electrolysis. When the electricity runs through it, it separates the smaller sized DNA from larger strands. From this we found out that Nancy Normal was in the Second Crime scene. But, we also found out that Carlton Comet was also Thomas Sandstone! This brings us to the next thing we can use to figure out Motive, or why Nancy killed Carlton. And that is a Pedigree, which is a fancy name for a family tree. From this family tree we can see that Nancy Norman's Aunt , Nina, had an affair with Thomas Sandstone, AKA Carlton Comet, and got pregnant with his child. Nina then miscarried which drove her into a deep depression and so she was administered into a mental hospital. Nancy Normal most likely blames Thomas Sandstone for this, and decides to murder him for his action. Also, Nancy has a crush with Fred, who hated Thomas. So she also killed Thomas to impress Fred. Another piece of evidence that proves Nancy Normal killed Thomas is the note that was left on the crime scene. What we did was we took the ink found on the crime scene and compared it to the ink in pens belonging to different people. When we compared the inks, we found that the ink belonged to a pen that belongs to Nancy Normal. This proves that not only did Nancy kill Thomas, but she also planned it out beforehand.
In the end, this project was just a really big "Meh". The work itself was't too much yet. It honestly would have been more interesting if in the end there was a "judge" that declared the defendant innocent or guilty. But I guess there was not enough time in the day to organize such a big event. Personally, I could have done more to participate if I were to just put down my phone. It was also wierd in the sense that we changed group mates mid project.
